A Pastoral Statement on Orthodox/Roman Catholic Marriages
Jesus was a divine Exemplar, and Christ is the divine idea of “sonship”–the Master. Illusions, or delusions, of a material world and material body result from error in thought and ignorance of the true and only nature of reality, which is spiritual. God is all that truly exists. There is no death as humans are immortal spirit.
After that which we call “death,” spiritual development toward Truth continues until all evil, or “error,” destroys itself.
Subscribe To Our Podcast: It is important to note up front that the denominations on the chart below represent what some refer to as the “visible” church which is defined by ecclesiology of tradition, architecture, culture, sight, sound, experience etc. The true church is comprised of those who have actually cried out to God for the forgiveness of their sins Acts 2: There are seven major families of denominations which comprise the Biblical Historical Christian faith: I have represented these families in the chart below.
Oriental Orthodox – Not to be confused with the Eastern Orthodox denominations – the Oriental Orthodox churches broke off in the earliest of schisms in Church history. Some were Nestorians, others were “monophysites” a complex understanding of Christology unfairly declared heretical. He would emerge from this contested ecumenical council as “Pope Leo” and was the first to be referred to by that title with the official meaning of “Primal Papal Office”.
This office would be further solidified in the west by the combination of church and state with the Pope appointing kings and emperors while those kings and emperors would, in turn, influence who would be “Pope”. The office of “Pope” would begin to be authoritatively enforced under Pope Gregory the Great c. AD which would last for nearly a thousand years. This iron-fisted reign of the popes would begin to wane with the introduction of a pre-reformer group called the Waldensians earliest reformers The office of Pope would reach an all-time low, essentially becoming somewhat of a laughing stock among the genuine Christian world with the “Great Papal Schism” of the 14th century where the Roman Catholic church had THREE Popes at once – none of which wanting to give up their authority!
Eastern Orthodox – Eastern Byzantine empire – began forming alongside the “Roman Church” with the division of the Roman empire into east and west.

Although initially the Eastern and Western Christians shared the same faith, the two traditions began to divide after the seventh Ecumenical Council in CE and is commonly believed to have finally split over the conflict with Rome in the so called Great Schism in In particular this happened over the papal claim to supreme authority and the doctrine of the Holy Spirit. The break became final with the failure of the Council of Florence in the fifteenth century. However, in the minds of most Orthodox, a decisive moment was the sack of Constantinople in during the Western Christian Fourth Crusade.
The sacking of Constantinople by the Crusaders eventually led to the loss of this Byzantine capital to the Muslim Ottomans in
Due to a difference in calendars, Jan. Archimandrite Christopher Calin, dean of the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Virgin Protection, explained why so many Orthodox churches celebrate Christmas later than most other people. There are 13 days in difference between the two calendars, the Gregorian calendar being the one long adopted by Western nations. For those remaining on the Julian calendar, the Epiphany is celebrated on Jan. Adoption of the Gregorian calendar among Orthodox churches varies among jurisdictions within the denomination.
Although Orthodox Christians also have an Advent season, which on the Gregorian calendar goes from Nov. According to Calin, the Christmas holiday is spread over three days and includes various fasts and services of worship. It begins with a service on Christmas Eve morning which involves reading Old Testament prophesies and New Testament passages followed by Communion. A fast is kept throughout the day until sunset and the appearance of the first star at evening, where a special meal called the “Holy Night supper” is eaten.
This supper involves 12 meat-free and dairy-free dishes, one for each apostle. After a blessing and reading from the Bible the meal is eaten and then carols are sung.

Enchanting Delila Hello Gents, if you are reading this content then I have caught your attention. I’m a mature, well known courtesan, I aim to please. Foreplay is my playground and satisfaction is my goal.
The Eastern Orthodox Church, officially the Orthodox Catholic Church, is the second-largest Christian church, with approximately – million members. As one of the oldest religious institutions in the world, the Orthodox Church has played a prominent role in the history and culture of Eastern and Southeastern Europe, the Caucasus, and the Near East.
This book, which was originally my Master’s thesis at St. Vladimir’s Seminary , has been edited and corrected, and formatted for publication. At present, the book is available in print-on-demand and ebook formats from the following locations: From an early age, it is reported that both he and his brother Nikolaos later Fr. Niphon were inclined towards monasticism. They were ordained as deacons and priests by Bishop Germanos of the Cyclades in order to serve parishes in Thessalonica, Chios, and Athens that adhered to the Julian Calendar.
The precise date of Father Petros’s ordination to the priesthood was August 9, At this time, there were no bishops and very few priests affiliated with the Greek Old Calendarist Church, and as a result hieromonks from Mount Athos performed the task of serving for those faithful who refused to accept the New Calendar” Chapter 2. This work examines his ecclesiastical life, from his origins in Greece through his arrival in America and establishment of the Cathedral, his ordination to the episcopacy by bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, his relationship to the Holy Synod of the Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Greece, and his later years.
The controversial issue of his views on the issue of Grace in the Mysteries Sacraments of the New Calendarists is discussed frankly and analyzed. His life and work is framed in the context of the Old Calendar movement as a whole, and his life is revealed to be a microcosm of it. What emerges is a portrait of a zealous pastor dedicated to the salvation of the souls under his care, who reached out to the Greek Diaspora of New York and beyond with a concern for preserving and restoring ecclesiastical Tradition, who cultivated deep relations with Russian Orthodox Christians at a time when Orthodox in America appeared to be hopelessly fractured along ethnic lines, and who maintained a principled approach to theological matters, despite suffering great personal costs.

A way of life is a whole coming together of habits and attitudes, ideas and actions: For us Orthodox, Christianity is our daily bread. Like a fish in water, we must swim in our Faith. As followers of Christ, we take our whole direction from Christ and His Church, and not from the standards of today’s world. This seems clearest when we visit a monastery, where the environment, the atmosphere, the focus of life – everything is clearly and deliberately Orthodox.
Most of us Orthodox Christians do not live in monasteries; we are married; we have homes, children, jobs. Among many married Orthodox there exists the mistaken idea that their following Christ does not require the same dedication required of the Orthodox monastic. But of course all Christians, whether monastic or not, are equally called by Christ to repentance and eternal salvation.
There are no “classes” of Orthodox Christians – all are equal and all are expected to be followers of Christ, regardless of their position in the Church. It is, however, very difficult for us non-monastic Christians to live an Orthodox life-style from day to day and year to year because we are constantly exposed to and live within a society that is not only not Christian but even at times, and increasingly, hostile to Orthodox Christian beliefs.
But this should not discourage us, for Christ Himself understood this situation when He said: Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; be wise as serpents and innocent as doves Matt. A tremendous bastion of strength for Orthodox lay people in our circumstances is marriage and family life, a state that has been blessed by God for the salvation of each individual member of the family.

Other families are a very general movement with no universal governing authority. Mainline Protestantism, for example, includes such diverse groups as Adventists , Anabaptists , Baptists , Congregationalists , Evangelicals , Holiness churches , Lutherans , Methodists , Moravians , Presbyterians , Reformed. Many of these have, as a result of ecumenical dialogue, established full or partial communion agreements.
Moreover, the classic distinction between Pentecostals and Charismatics is that the former are entire denominations such as the Assembly of God or include most nondenominational churches, whereas the latter are Spirit-filled Christians in already existing Catholic or mainline Protestant churches.
Dating can be a tough scene for us Orthodox Christians–let’s be honest: there are not that many of us, and there can be a lot of pressure from family to make something work or to .
However, they are each governed by a committee of Bishops, called the Holy Synod, with one central Bishop holding the honorary title of “first among equals. The Orthodox hold a common doctrine and a common form of worship, and they see themselves not as separate Churches but as administrative units of one single Church. They are notable for their extensive tradition of iconography see also: Byzantine art , for their veneration of the Mother of God and the Saints , and for their use of the Divine Liturgy on Sundays, which is a standardized worship service dating back to the fourth century A.
Others are attributed to St. Basil the Great , St. James, the Brother of God and St. The current territory of the Greek Orthodox Churches more or less covers the areas in the Balkans , Anatolia , and the Eastern Mediterranean that used to be a part of the Byzantine Empire. They attend churches which conduct their services in Arabic , the common language of most Greek Orthodox believers in the Levant , while at the same time maintaining elements of the Byzantine Greek cultural tradition.
Some Historic Aspects on its Origin: The Coptic calendar, the oldest in history, originated three millennia before Christ. The exact date of its origin is unknown. It is believed that Imhotep, the supreme official of King Djoser C. Historically, ancient Egyptians initially used a civil calendar based on a solar year that consisted of days only, without making any adjustment for the additional quarter of a day each year.

Not to mention the crazy way the world often treats relationships as means simply to fulfill our own selfish desires. Take your time to find the right person. Trust your parents, your priest, and your peers. Look for someone better than you. If you feel like you are dragging a person behind you in any way, but especially spiritually, this is not the person for you. Pray for guidance in finding the right person and help to navigate your relationships when you get into them.
And with that, here are a few saints who can help you along the way: Matthew Garrett , used with permission St. Xenia Ksenia of St. Shocked, Xenia ran from St. Petersburg, returning eight years later as a homeless wanderer. Many of the people derided her as an insane homeless person, but she bore their insults while praying unceasingly for the people of St. In her own life, she was granted the gifts of prophecy and great prayer.
